Overall, it wasn’t a bad book at all, but I wish it had been a little more exciting at the end.įirst Lines: There are times when magic really sucks. Also, it really just felt like the paranormal stuff was just a subplot to Izzy navigating high school.

I would have liked it a little more if the ending had been more climatic, but it just didn’t have enough umph. It had a moment that was supposed to be, but fell flat for me. Some of the action in the middle was pretty suspenseful, but the ending wasn’t really. There wasn’t really anything new or overly exciting. I read a lot of ghost stories, so I feel like I’ve seen most of that before. The paranormal stuff, surprisingly, was a little lacking. Usually wit and craziness, but I was ok with that. It’s just a small group of friends, but they definitely each brought something to the table. I really liked her friends in the series as well. It was funny seeing how normal fighting the paranormal was, but how foreign high school was. (But that doesn’t mean other characters weren’t sarcastic.) I really liked trying to see her fit in with the normal high school population. Izzy’s certainly not as sarcastic and witty as Sophie is, but that’s ok. Can Izzy trust her new friends to help her with the case? From friends to crushes, it’s all new to her. To banish the ghost, Izzy must blend in with normal teenagers…and it’s harder than she thought. The local high school has had a series of dangerous, unexplainable hauntings lately.

They move to a new town before quickly finding out this isn’t the quaint town Izzy expected. But when Izzy’s older sister vanishes without a trace, Izzy’s mom thinks maybe it’s time to take a break from monsters. At only 15, she’s been trained her entire life to fight monsters. Izzy Brannick’s life can’t be considered “normal”, unless you’re a Brannick. You have no idea how ready I was for more sarcasm and wit after Hex Hall ended.

In case this cover looks maybe vaguely familiar to you stylistically, that’s because this is the first book in the Hex Hall spin-off series by Rachel Hawkins. But the truth is, those are just rumors spread by vampires hunters to make themselves seem tougher. I know movies and TV make it look really hard, like if you don’t hit the right spot, it won’t work. First Lines: Killing a vampire is actually a lot easier than you’d think.
